Istiadactylus war ein relativ großer Pterosaurier der Kreide und gehörte zur Familie der Istiodactylidae, die nach ihm benannt wurde.[1]

- I. latidens ist die Typus-Spezies dieser Gattung. Sie wurde 1913 von Reginalt W. Hooley als Ornithodesmus latidens beschrieben und 2001 von Stafford Howse, Andrew R. C. Milner und David M. Martill einer neuen Gattung zugeordnet.
- I. sinensis wurde 2006 von Brian Andres und Qiang Ji beschrieben. Das Art-Epitheton "sinensis" weist auf dessen Fundort in China hin.[2]
